We have a Constitution for a reason, especially the Bill of Rights. Simply put, when government actors, be they police, lawmakers, or government school administrators, stick their dirty shoes on our necks to compel us to relinquish our rights, we have the ability to fight back. But this article angers me for another reason.

In summation, a gay Ohio teenager wore a T-shirt that read “Jesus is not a Homophobe.” My impressiion is that the principal who forced him to take the shirt off is a so-called Christian. Here’s a question: If Jesus loves the sinner but not the sin, as I believe, then isn’t the phrase on the shirt true? I don’t think Jesus has a seat next to him in Heaven for Fred Phelps, the famous Topeka, Kansas, gay-hater.

But it raises another question, too. An allegedly well-educated educator, the principal no less, should know better. Shouldn’t our teacher’s colleges teach their students, future educators, about the most sacred document in the land, the Constitution? If they did, incidents like this would never occur.

I am reminded of the high school girl who was disciplined for texting her opinion of a Kansas politician to a friend. Really? This makes two incidents in the past few months, one in Ohio, and one in Kansas.

This incident makes me glad to be (1) a Christian who actually reads his Bible so knows better, and (2) a home school parent who doesn’t leave the education of his children up to people who apparently don’t know enough to inculcate knowledge and values that really matter.

Sorry for ranting two days in a row. I just couldn’t resist.
